Call for marshals – On 10th October, AAC will host the ever-popular OUTsurance Gun Run 21km, 10km and 5km fun run. We need approximately 120 marshals on the day, and we encourage all members who are not running to volunteer as marshals. Comrades Marathon 2011: Entries for the event opened today and close on 30th November 2010; places are limited to 18 000 and NO ENTRIES WILL BE TAKEN IN 2011. How to enter: 1) follow the entry link online at www.comrades.com, 2) pay and enter at a till point at any Mr Price stores countrywide, 3) hand deliver your entry to the CMA House in Pietermaritzburg or 4) post your entry to Comrades Marathon, PO Box 843, Pietermaritzburg, 3200. SATURDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER:

Riebeek Kasteel 21km & 10km: Hosted by Swartland Athletic Club; 21km & 10km starting at 07h30 from the Church Hall, Piet Retief Street, Riebeek Kasteel. Entries will be taken on the day from 06h00. For further details, contact Hennie Vlok on 0825736915.

Camps Bay (outside Vida): For those not heading out to do a race this weekend, then there’s the usual 7am start in Camps Bay outside Vida.

SUNDAY 5th SEPTEMBER:

SATORI CAMEL RUN 10 Miler: Satori Athletic Club in Noordhoek present the Camel Run 10-miler Classic starting at 07h30 from the Noordhoek Sports Fields off Chapman’s Peak Drive. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A PRE-ENTRY RACE ONLY and there will be no entries taken on the day. Entries have already closed as the limit has been reached and NO SUBSTITITIONS will be allowed. All runners who have entered, please be reminded to collect your race number from your chosen Sportsmans Warehouse outlet; on Thursday 2nd (between 15h00 and 18h00) and Saturday 4th (between 10h00 and 12h00) from Sportsmans Warehouse in Tokai or on Saturday 4th (between 10h00 and 12h00) from Sportsman Warehouse in Canal Walk.

ProNutro African X-Trail 2011 – Entries for the much anticipated 2011 ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance will open at 09h00 on Monday, 06 September 2010. Any 2010 competitors wishing to sign up for the 2011 ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun will receive preference until midnight on Monday, 20 September 2010. So enter early! ONLY 250 TEAMS WILL BE ACCEPTED, FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. The event will take place from Friday 6th May 20011 to Sunday 8th May 2011. Sports injury workshop: A reminder that Jenni Rorrison will be giving an evening workshop on how to manage your own body pain and imbalances on 8 September, 6 to 8pm at New Balance House, Prime Park, Mocke road, Diep River (021 705 6224), Cape Town. Sportsmans Warehouse Road & Trail Run Fest: Klipfontein Road, Rondebosch on Thursday 9 September, 18h00 to 21h00. 20% off all running footwear. Guest speaker Braam Malherbe, SA extreme athlete and author of “The Great Run” who averaged a full marathon a day for 98 days along the Great Wall of China over some of the world’s harshest terrain. The evening includes brand stands and reps offering new insights into running technology, lucky draw prizes, cholesterol and glucose testing, biokineticist, physiotherapist and podiatrist consultations. The Kogelberg Challenge will take place in Pringle Bay on the 11th September. Hangklip Athletic Club will host a staggered event consisting of three races; 21km starting at 7h30, a 10km at 10h30 and a 5km fun run at 12h00. For the fit and intrepid, run all three! The Challenge will be combined with the Conservancy Festival which includes a spit braai, a wine & beer tent, an indigenous plant auction and many other stalls.

Cape Town Marathon: The Cape Town Marathon will wind its way through the streets of the Mother City again this spring. The race, which is organised by Western Province Athletics, in partnership with the City of Cape Town, takes place on Sunday 26 September. The marathon, with its fast and flat course, is appealing to both elite athletes in search of quick times and beginners who want to complete their first marathon. Starting at the same time as the marathon is a 10km race, which follows the last part of the marathon route. Just over an hour later, there is a 4,2km mini-marathon for junior athletes, which also takes place on the last part of the marathon route. Enter online at http://www.wpa.org.za/ www.wpa.org.za. Comrades Marathon Road Show: The Comrades Marathon Association will be visiting areas around the country from September to October 2010. You can look forward to an informative and inspiring talk, with expert advice, lucky draw prizes and interaction with your local running heroes. AAC will be hosting a CMA Road Show on Wednesday 29 September at the Atlantic Green Point Bowling Club in Main Road, Green Point. It starts at 19h00 and various experts will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Entrance is free. OUTsurance 94.5 Kfm Gun Run! Bring the whole family along for a morning of fun and take part in the OUTsurance 94.5 Kfm Gun Run on Sunday 10 October 2010. You can walk or run the 5km or there’s a 10km walk/run and a 21km half marathon if you’re looking for more of a challenge. Entry forms are available at Sportsmans Warehouse or enter online at http://www.topevents.co.za/ www.topevents.co.za. Entries close Friday 1 October, so be sure to enter early. You can still enter the 5km fun run/walk on the morning. Come and join Ashley Hayden, Survivor SA runner up, who will be running the 10km to raise funds and create an awareness for the event’s official charity – The Homestead. Local 94.5 Kfm DJ’s, including the Breakfast Team’s Ryan O’Connor and Charmaine Noy, will also be taking part in the event. There’s also loads of entertainment for participants and spectators on the Sea Point Promenade at Rocklands Beach opposite Winchester Mansions, including a live band. Landmarks Half Marathon and 6km Fun Run & School Challenge: This takes place on Sunday 7 November (note the new date – a week earlier) from Western Province Cricket Club. The route is scenic but tough one through the Southern Suburbs and up to Rhodes Memorial. Dear all

Don’t forget to put a date in your diary for the next Atlantic social on Thursday 5th August at the Oceana Powerboat Club from 7pm. We’ll have a sausage braai as well as a vegetarian option. Drinks for your own account.
